Milspouse Matters Episode 37 with Stacy Huisman and Amanda Trimillos

Milspouse Matters Episode 37 with Stacy Huisman and Amanda Trimillos

Welcome to episode 37 of Milspouse Matters!

During Month of the Military Child, we take time to honor and celebrate our military kids. This year, with all the closures, you may not be able to do that in the way you normally would.

On this episode, I’m talking to Stacy Huisman and Amanda Trimillos, coauthors of the book, Seasons of My Military Student. It was so fun to hear how they came together to write this important book that’s so helpful for military families and teachers alike. They share about that process and then give some great advice about how we can help our military kids through the transitions that go along with changing schools, settling into new routines, and the disruptions these students face with military life. Additionally, we’re talking about some fun and unique ways we can recognize these military kids during this unprecedented time of closures and quarantine in the Month of the Military Child. Here’s a little bit about them:

Stacy Allsbrook-Huisman is an Air Force spouse, writer, mother and advocate within the military spouse community. As a former Parent-to-Parent trainer for Military Child Education Coalition, she led workshops and seminars on many topics related to the education of military-connected students. She is the coauthor with Dr. Amanda Trimillos of Seasons of My Military Student: Practical Ideas for Parents and Teachers (Elva Resa, 2018). She offers professional development on military-connected students and education transition to schools, parent groups and military support agencies.

Amanda Trimillos, (EdD)., is an Air Force spouse, mother, and National Board-Certified Teacher with extensive experience teaching military students in the United States and overseas. She leads workshops and professional development seminars for educators of military-connected students.  She is coauthor of Seasons of My Military Student: Practical Ideas for Parents and Teachers and wrote the essay “School Choices and Changes” in Stories Around the Table: Laughter, Wisdom, and Strength in Military Life.
