Milspouse Matters Episode 35 with Jen McDonald

Milspouse Matters Episode 35 with Jen McDonald

On this episode, I’m sharing some encouragement and resources for U.S. military families as we navigate the “new normal” of life in the coronavirus pandemic.

The coronavirus pandemic is a new situation for us all. Maybe your PCS move is on hold, the military member has been called up or is on extra duty, you’re suddenly working from home (or you’re out of work), and your kids are out of school and it’s up to you to keep them on task at home. Life has surely changed in many ways.

Where can you find accurate information during this time? I’ve put together a list of official government and DOD resources for you.

My biggest reminder? Give yourself some grace! And, now more than ever, let’s extend grace and flexibility to each other.

Tips discussed on this episode:

  • For those newly working from home.
  • For those busier than ever, because you’re on the front lines in some way.
  • Ways we can support and help each other.
  • Some thoughts about homeschooling if you suddenly find yourself in that situation.

If your family is in crisis and this quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic has worsened the situation, please reach out for help: Military OneSource or 1-800-342-9647 and international calling options.

Military OneSource now has a section dedicated to Coronavirus updates and resources. Find help for families in crisis, online learning resources for military kids, service updates and changes, and the latest video non-medical counseling for military youth (so helpful during this time of school closures and uncertainty).

Verses mentioned:

“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you” (Isaiah 26:3).

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5,6).

Lead, Kindly Light

By Cardinal John Henry Newman

Lead, kindly Light, amid the encircling gloom,

Lead Thou me on!

The night is dark, and I am far from home—

Lead Thou Me on!

Keep Thou my feet; I do not ask to see

The distant scene—one step enough for me.
