Milspouse Matters Episode 26 with Rebecca Alwine
What role does faith play in your life as a military spouse? Are you tired of “church shopping” and searching for a faith community every time you move?
This week, Jen’s talking with Rebecca Alwine about finding “your people” and how important a faith community can be in your marriage and personal life. We touch on mentoring and being a mentor to someone else, as well as how your faith can uphold you through the hard seasons.
Like many others in their early twenties, Rebecca went through a break with the church but not a break with her faith. After having kids and finding a new church home, she says she and her husband “didn’t realize how important it was until we came back.”
Rebecca talks about what faith lived out looks like in her daily life and even through her professional writing. She says, “I want to tell the stories of what I think is important” and
I don’t feel like I need to talk about religion and faith in a way that’s going to confirm what people already believe. Jesus says we’re to love everybody, and I try really hard to do that every day through what I’m writing. I want everyone to feel appreciated, loved, and supported—no matter what I write.
One of her family’s favorite quotes is from St. Francis of Assisi: “In all ways, preach the gospel. Use words if necessary.”
