I’m a human being, not a human doing

Some things I’ve been thinking about, for various reasons…

“The problem is not that there are problems. The problem is expecting otherwise and thinking that having problems is a problem.” (Theodore Rubin)

“When the only tool you own is a hammer, every problem begins to resemble a nail.” (Abraham Maslow)

“Problems are to the mind what exercise is to the muscles, they toughen and make strong.” (Norman Vincent Peale)

and….”Life IS pain, Princess! Anyone who tries to tell you differently is selling something.” (Wesley from Princess Bride)

We’re in the midst of watching our house get packed up–again, our 5th move in as many years, don’t even ask me how many total–and as a rule, other things will go wrong or need attention while you are already dealing with the one big thing you had geared up for.

So… I’m taking a breath, stepping back, and remembering I don’t have to do it all or solve everything today. Letting it unfold. Remembering I’m a human being, not only a human “doing”.

Life is good!

Blessings,

  1. Just prayed for you and your family. And for your husband. Hope the move goes well.

I appreciate your post about what to do for a military family dealing with deployment. No one can say it better than someone going through it. I will remember your words the next time I meet such a family.

    Take care and God bless,
    Kate

  2. Hello!
I just hopped over from Pioneer Woman Cooks–her homeschool post. 😉

I saw your list of favorite reads–Above Rubies? Sweet!
Our family holds a camp every end-of-March up here in southern Wisconsin, and it's always so good to hear them speak.
Just thought I'd come by and say hi–especially once I found that. 🙂
Have a lovely Tuesday! I'm sure I'll be back:)
    God bless!

  3. p.s. I loved this post–and I'm your newest follower; the girl with the green mug of chai in her face…although I mostly drink coffee. 😉

  4. Thanks so much, Beka! I blog so irregularly, I'm surprised anyone follows it at all…kind of go through wordy spells, then dry spells. 🙂 Above Rubies was one of the first magazines I read when I first started being a stay at home mom….I need to look them up and see what they're up to!
    God bless

  5. Moving stinks excpet for the fact that you get to purge. My favorite part. It doens't matter how many times you do it it is alawys crazy. Just keep thinking. Soon, I will be at the beach… That is what I did on my way here.
I know this move is a big one.
